Dickson leads as INEC declares winner today

 

The incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson of the Peoples Democratic Party, is currently leading his main opponent in Saturday’s governorship election, Timipre Sylva of the All Progressives Congress, with a wide margin after results of five local government areas were released Sunday night.

Dickson, who won in four out of the five LGA results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission in Yenagoa, polled 81,929 votes as against Sylva’s 56,514 votes.

While Dickson is leading in Ekeremor, Sagbama, Yenagoa and Kolokuma/Okpokuma LGAs, Sylva, who is a former governor of the state, only led his main rival in the poll in his Brass LGA.

Naira drops further

 

The naira crashed further against the dollar from 247 last Thursday to 251 on Saturday at the parallel market.

This came barely one week after the Central Bank of Nigeria cut foreign exchange supply to Bureau De Change operators.

BIAFRA: Uwazuruike renames MASSOB

 The leader of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike, has in a surprise move, announced a new name, Biafra Independent Movement, BIM, for the group.
 Chief Uwazuruike, made the announcement Sunday while addressing the press in Owerri, also said that he was irked by the bad corporate image some dissidents of MASSOB, was attracting to the group.

Man stabs pregnant wife to death, sets self, house ablaze

Federal Capital Territory police command, Abuja, has commenced investigation into the death of a 40-year-old pregnant woman identified as Chinyere Ifemaobi who was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband, Uchenna Ifemaobi on November 17, 2015. It was alleged that Uchenna in an attempt to cover up his crime set their apart­ment at Kurudu Jik- way, on fire but was badly burnt and he died days after.
As providence will have it, their four-year-old daughter, Uchenna, who was in the apartment at the time of the inci­dent, was rescued by neighbours.

Adamawa ex-Finance Commissioner jailed 10 years

A former Commissioner for Finance and Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Adamawa state during Boni Haruna’s administration, John Elias has been sentecenecd to 10 years imprisonment without option of fine by a Federal High Court sitting in Yola, presided over by Justice Bilkisu Bello Aliyu.
The judge on Friday also ordered the Corporate Affairs Commission to shut down his company, ALHAKIM NIGERIA LIMITED as well as pay the state sum of N51.5 million which he stole while he held sway in office.

“Clarification on false claim that Senate passed a bill proposing to jail social media users for two years”.
According to him, “The bill being made reference to, is An Act to Prohibit Frivolous Petitions and Other Related Matters, which absolutely makes no mention of jailing social media users.
