THE Akwa Ibom State government has granted financial autonomy to the state judiciary, as the state chapter of the Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) suspends industrial action.
The state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Uwemedimo Nwoko and Special Adviser to Governor on Labour and Productivity, Mr Godwin Udom, in Uyo, on Monday, agreed that any money releases shall be made directly to the state Chief Judge.
They also agreed that all outstanding vouchers of the judiciary for capital projects currently lying in the Office of the Accountant General in the state as of January 1, 2015 be released to judiciary forthwith, to enable it to commence its self-accounting status.
Nwoko consented to the clause which said that no member of the judiciary would be penalised on account of taking part in the industrial action, with their outstanding salaries for January and February to be paid without delay.
Presence at the reading and signing of the communiqué were JUSUN state chairman, Mr Bassey Akpan and the national publicity secretary, JUSUN, Mr Kayode Igbarago, who represented the national chairman, Mr Mustafa Adamu.
The union, after due consultation with its national executive, therefore, decided to suspend the industrial action forthwith.
