THE first edition of the full-blown Computer Based Test (CBT) mode of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) was conducted in Abuja and other parts of the country, on Tuesday.
The examinations went smoothly in almost all the centres across the country, except in some few places where minor hitches were recorded.
In Abuja, the examination was held under tight security in all the centres, ostensibly to prevent chaos and ensure orderliness.
There was heavy presence of personnel of Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) across the examination centres, with sniffer dogs deployed strategically for bomb detection and crowd control.
At the Charms City, one of the examination centres approved by the Joint Admission and Matriculations Board (JAMB), the conduct of the examination was generally peaceful and orderly.
Across the centres, biometric screening of candidates commenced at 6.00 a.m. for the first session of the examination and lasted till 7.30 a.m when real examination kicked off.
Majority of the candidates who came out from the examination hall commended the transition from the Paper-Pencil mode to the CBT.
The leader of the NSCDC team at the Charms City, Mr Akpan Bassey, told newsmen that there was no single case of examination malpractice at the centre.
