The management of the Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services of the Nigeria Airforce company, has stated that the Osun Airport project, named after the late Chief MKO Abiola is very much on course.
The assurance came just as Governor Rauf Aregbesola carried out an inspection of the project to ascertain the level of works done at the site, last Wednesday evening.
Governor Aregbesola, during the inspection of the project, said that his administration had the vision to use the project as one of the strategies to ignite economic development, given the fact that it had the capacity to attract foreign visitors and airline companies which would bring aircrafts for maintenance works.
Aregbesola maintained that despite the dwindling monthly allocation to states by the Federal Government, his administration would not stop construction works at the airport.
The managing director of the Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services of the Nigeria Airforce company, Air Vice Marshall Andy Tsakrin in company with the new managing director, Air Vice Marshal Ajibola Jekenu, had earlier paid the governor a visit at the Government House in Osogbo.
The governor stated further that in engaging the Nigeria Airforce services by Osun, the state would no doubt, boast of one of the best airports in Nigeria that could compete favourably with other airports in the world in terms of architecture and technology, after completion of the MKO Abiola Airport.
Speaking on the emergency call centre built for the state by the Airforce, Aregbesola said politics had hampered the provision of sort code to activate the centre.
“It is unbelievable that during the last August 9 governorship election some hoodlums dressed in army uniforms vandalised the emergency call centre here in Osogbo,” he said.
Earlier, while introducing the new managing director, Aeronautical Engineering and Technical Services, Air vice Marshall Ajibola jekenu, the outgoing Air Vice Marshall Andy Tsakri applauded the humility and honesty of governor Aregbesola in handling issues of the state.
Inspecting the MKO international airport runway, the project manager, Engineer Aminu Sulaiman noted that the current level of the airport was achieved through a lot of perseverance and hard work.
