The ex-striker believes the Swede will not return to the Rossoneri the same player he was when he left, but backed Jackson Martinez to make an impact
AC Milan icon Daniele Massaro has urged his former club to forget Zlatan Ibrahimovic and bring back Thiago Silva instead.
The duo left the Rossoneri for Paris Saint-Germain in 2012 for a combined fee of €65 million.
Milan are looking to rebuild after a disappointing 10th place finish last term and are reportedly keen to bring Ibra back to San Siro, but Massaro believes a move for defender Thiago Silva makes more financial sense.
"I personally am quite sceptical about the return of Ibrahimovic," the two-time Champions League winner with Milan told Corriere dello Sport.
"Sure, he's a great striker but I would rather use the money to invest in Thiago Silva. Milan would benefit more from his return than they would from Ibra's.
"Niether [Ruud] Gullit, [Andriy] Shevchenko nor Kaka were able to hit their previous heights when they returned. I would say only invest on Ibrahimovic if he came for nothing.
"He is 34-years-old and I think that resources should be spent to develop other areas of this new Milan."
The club have been bolstered by the financial investment of Thai businessman Bee Taechaubol, with director Adriano Galliani working quickly to near a deal for Porto striker Jackson Martinez in the interim.
"Congratulations to Milan. They identified the best available name on the market right now," the former striker continued.
"Martinez is physically very strong, excellent tactically, and most importantly is the team's first line of defence on the pitch."
