His actions speaks louder than words. The
rapper known as The Game took to Instagram on Tuesday to reveal he had
made a $1million donation from his charity to the Flint, Michigan water
crisis – half of it from his own personal bank account.
While making his generous pledge, the 36-year-old called out Jimmy Fallon and Madonna for only donating $10,000 each to the crisis.
‘I just figured Madonna has gotta be close to a billionaire,’ The Game said on TMZ Live.
‘I just thought that the $10,000 was sort of a joke to me. No one else
has to share that opinion or feel like that. I just felt like if we’re
going to donate some water, let’s donate some water.’
Residents of Flint complained for more than 18 months that their water was contaminated.
After
an emergency city manager switched Flint's water supply to Flint River
water in 2014, the corrosive water caused lead to leach from old pipes,
and elevated lead levels were discovered in children.
Experts are
estimating that at least 8,000 children under the age of six may have
suffered permanent brain damage after being exposed to extremely high
levels of lead in the city's water supply.
The
Game said he's partnered with Avita Water Corp. because it’s based in
Michigan, making it easy to get the bottled water to where it's needed.
‘You
got all these water companies all around the world, and people saying
they’re donating water, but don’t even know how hard it is to get water
into Michigan because of what’s going on with the snow and blizzards and
all of that,’ he said on TMZ Live. ‘I figured we’d partner up with
Avita because they were right there in Michigan and we could sort of
expedite the process.’
.
In donating
$500,000 of his own money from his ‘Robin Hood Project Checking’
account, he showed off he has an available bank balance of more than
$13million.
Asked
why he didn’t blur out the balance while on TMZ Live, he said: ‘It’s
been 13 years – I think I kind of earned it at this point.'
