A group of rioters began throwing rocks and attacking bystanders and police officers near Mondawmin Mall and Libery Heights Monday afternoon.
There were reports of an organized riot, called “a purge,” to be carried out by students from three Baltimore high schools in the name of Freddie Gray and unrest over police brutality.
At least seven police officeres were injured. The severity of the officers' injuries was not immediately known.
"The group in the area of Gwynns Falls and Liberty Heights has become very aggressive and violent," Baltimore Police said on Twitter. "We are continuing to deploy resources."
