Filipina Spared From Execution In Last Minute

Filipina Spared From Execution In Last Minute

Execution of Mary Jane Veloso, a mother of two, who was to be executed with eight other convicts sentenced to death in Indonesia, was postponed in the last minute.

Mary Jane Veloso was spared from death by firing squad in response to a request from Filipino authorities after a woman who allegedly gave her a suitcase with a false bottom containing 2.6 kg of heroin gave herself up to police in the Philippines on Tuesday. The request came last minutes before the execution. However, the other convicts, including four Nigerians, had to face a firing squad. Here are their last minutes.
The Indonesian authorities decided to stop the execution of Mary Jane Veloso, now 30, to revise her case of smuggling heroin inside the country in 2010. The woman insists she was unaware of the real contents of the suitcase she was arrested with. The woman’s family also maintains that she was duped into carrying the drugs inside Indonesia
