Cultists raze buildings in Lagos

.
No fewer than 25 persons have been rendered homeless after suspected cultists invaded two buildings on Sholanke Street in the Akoka, Yaba area of Lagos State and set fire to them.
According to PUNCH Metro,the hoodlums, who came at about 7.30am on Wednesday, did not allow their victims to take any property from the buildings.
It was learnt that rival cultists had clashed on Ibukunolu Street on Tuesday at about 7pm, and had stabbed a 17-year-old student, identified only as Rilwan, to death.
Two of the attackers were said to be identified as Lolade, also known as Makayoko, and Ororo.

Israel ex-PM Ehud Olmert to serve jail term for bribery

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has been ordered to serve 18 months in jail for bribery.
Olmert had been sentenced to six years by a lower court in 2014, but this was reduced by the Supreme Court.
The 70-year-old was convicted over a real estate deal that took place while he served as mayor of Jerusalem, prior to becoming prime minister in 2006.

The Federal Government has said the transmitters for Radio Biafra, which has been accused of spreading secessionist agenda and campaigning for the carving out of a Biafra Republic from Nigeria, were found to be installed on MTN masts in Enugu and Anambra states.
According to the Federal Government, the installation of the transmitters on the telecommunications company’s masts was to ensure wider coverage for the radio.

FOLLOWING the agitation by members of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB and continued detention of Biafra Radio Director, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu by the Department of State Security, DSS, a renowned cleric, Prophet Anthony Nwoko of the Church of God, weekend called on President Muhammadu Buhari to ensure Kanu’s immediate release or Heaven will fall.
Prophet Nwoko when he addressed a crowded press conference at the end of a Prayer Summit organised by 24 pastors in Enugu, with the theme ‘Possessing the land,’ said: “I cannot find any clean political leader from the South East. The governors are selfish, self centered, and have never pursued any action that will uplift the overall well-being of Igbo nation.”

We can’t reverse ATM card ban abroad – CBN

 
The Central Bank of Nigeria has said the decision of Deposit Money Banks to place a restriction on the use of Automated Teller Machine cards abroad by bank customers is due to scarcity of foreign exchange.
The apex bank said while it had no powers to reverse the restriction placed by the DMBs on the use of the ATMs abroad, the CBN was in support of the decision as it would assist in reducing the pressure on the naira.

Engineer kidnapped his female colleague and raped her for five days 'to convince her to convert to Islam'

Engineer Syen Emad Hasan (pictured), 30, proposed to the 27-year-old woman but she rejected him and said her family would not allow 'an inter-religious marriage' 

Hasan and a woman, who has not been named, worked together at a Dell computer repairs shop in Gachibowli, Hyderabad.
When she left the company and moved to Dubai in August, he 'continued to torture her on social media', police said.
'The woman told us she was forced to talk to Hasan as he showed her photos and videos of them together in Hyderabad, and threatened to send them to her father, said Inspector Ravinder.

Lagos policeman kills twin brothers, their friend, himself

 
A drunk policeman, Stephen James, on Saturday shot dead three male customers at a hotel in the Ketu area of Lagos State.
According to SUNDAY PUNCH, the deceased were twin brothers identified as Taiwo and Kehinde Oyesunle and their friend known simply as Jeje. The twins were the only children of their mother.
The tragic incident; which happened outside the premises of Paulson Hotel on Anibaba Street around 4:20pm, threw the entire neighborhood and its environs into chaos with passers-by and residents scampering in different directions.

The fate that befell the grand-daughter on November 29, 2015, at Pure Water Bus Stop along Lagos-Badagry Road,  was better imagined than experienced; she was found lying on a  culvert unconscious, with blood all over her body.
It was learned that victim was ambushed on her way to the next street when a 27-year-old  bakery worker, identified as Sule, allegedly ambushed her, dragged her to an uncompleted building and raped her.

The warning is contained in a statement issued by Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Godwin Adindu.
Adindu quoted the governor as saying it was important for the people of Abia to enjoy peaceful and joyous Christmas and New year devoid of any violence.

Gas Plant Explosion In Anambra, Kills Eight

 
 dark Christmas in Nnewi, Anambra State as eight people were killed and several others wounded following gas explosion at a Gas Plant belonging to the Intercorp Oil Limited, a subsidiary of Chicason Group located along Onitsha-Owerri expressway.

The bodies were burnt beyond recognition and according to eyewitnesses, they say the disaster occurred about midday when a consignment of gas was about being transferred to the company’s dump, due to a leakage, there was a massive explosion which quickly spread to nearby houses wreaking havoc.

The Federal Government, yesterday, said it would neither be cowed nor threatened by MTN’s court action against the N1.4trn fine which was later reduced to N780 billion, insisting that the telecommunications company risks another fine if it fails to pay on deadline.
Minister of Communications, Mr Adebayo Shittu, made the statement yesterday in reaction to the suit instituted by the telecom operator at a Lagos High Court, weekend.

Tension is building up in the South-East and parts of South-South geopolitical zones following the continued detention of the leader of Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, and Director Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, who was, last Wednesday, discharged and acquitted by a Magistrate’s Court in Abuja of the treason preferred on him by the Department of State Security Services, DSS.
It will be recalled that Justice Ademola Adeniyi of a Federal High Court, also in Abuja, had, last Thursday, ordered Kanu’s immediate release from DSS detention.
Nnamdi was arrested on October 17, by DSS operatives, shortly after he arrived Nigeria from his base in the United Kingdom, which prompted over one month protests after he was arraigned secretly at Wuse 2 Magistrate’s Court presided over by Justice Shuiabu, who granted him bail on October 19.

Fears of new Islamist threat emerge in Nigeria

 
Nigeria which is still battling Boko Haram militants, now risks unleashing a new Islamist threat after violent clashes between the army and a radical Shiite group, experts say.
Though no official death toll was released, at least a dozen members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) were killed in confrontations with the army during a religious procession last week in the northern city of Zaria.
IMN leader Ibrahim Zakzaky was seriously wounded and arrested by the army while his number two was killed during the clashes. The military was forced to put out a denial after rumours spread that Zakzaky's wife died in custody.
