Herdsman arrested with AK47 rifle, ammunition in Enugu


A 20-year-old herdsman, Ibrahim Adamumale, has been arrested by the police in Enugu for alleged possession of an AK47 rifle and ammunition, police said.
Adamu, who is an indigene of Nasarawa State, was also found with 24 rounds of live ammunition.
The spokesman of the state Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, confirmed the arrest yesterday.
Mr. Amaraizu said the suspect, who revealed that he lives at Hausa quarters in 9th-Mile area and had some cows at Affa-Udi bush, was arrested on Sunday.
“The suspect was nabbed by the combined efforts of the police and members of the public from Affa-Udi community.

Woman Flees After She Brutalized Her Young Stepchildren in Kaduna


A 2-year-old boy and four year-old girl were allegedly brutalized by their stepmother in NDC, Igabi local government area of Kaduna State. The children, Abdulrahman Abubakar and Maryam Abubakar are currently receiving treatment at a private hospital in Kaduna.

According to Daily Trust, the stepmother identified as Hasiya broke Abdulrahman’s left hand, right leg and Maryam’s head at their father’s house.

Devastating Effects of Zika Virus Seen in New Fetal Brain Scans

The devastating effects of the Zika virus on the brains of fetuses go beyond microcephaly, according to a new study published today in the medical journal Radiology.

Researchers evaluated brain scans of fetuses and infants with suspected Zika infection and found that in addition to microcephaly there were severe abnormalities in 94 percent of infants. The researchers studied 17 babies and fetuses with confirmed Zika diagnosis and 28 with suspected Zika infection.

Viral infection of a pregnant woman has been linked to increased risk of microcephaly in the fetus, but researchers are still learning how the virus affects brain development.

The Punch reports that the EFCC would formally charge the former minister of finance with conspiracy to indirectly retain the sum of N100m “which he ought to have known formed part of the proceeds of an unlawful act to wit: stealing, thereby committing an offence contrary to Section 18(a) of the Money Laundering (Prohibition) (Amendment) Act, 2012, and punishable under Section 15(3) and 4 of the same Act.” Falae had admitted in February that he received the money on behalf of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) but was unaware the money came fro Dasuki.

Libya repatriates 241 Nigerians to Lagos


No fewer than 241 Nigerians, who were stranded in Libya, have been repatriated to the country.
It was learnt that the returnees arrived in the country on Tuesday around 3.45pm through the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos State.

They were said to have been received by the officials of the National Emergency Management Agency, who assisted them with food and transport fares.
Some of them, who were sick, were reportedly taken to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja, for treatment.

Man remanded in prison for having sex with daughter


A 56-year-old man, Abdullahi Zakari, who allegedly had sexual intercourse with his 18-year-old daughter, is to remain behind bars pending the perfection of his bail condition, a Lagos court has ruled.

A Surulere Magistrates’ Court, which gave the order, said the man should be remanded in Ikoyi Prisons until the bail conditions were met.

The Magistrate, Mrs. M.I. Dan-Oni, had admitted the accused to a bail of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum........

Cultists kill poly student, two friends in restaurant


Gunmen suspected to be cult members have invaded Abule Nla Road in the Iponri area of Lagos State, shooting at youths in a restaurant.
During the shootout, three persons were reportedly killed.

The victims comprised a student of a polytechnic in Ogun State, Damilola Adegoke, and two of his friends, identified only as Kehinde and Junior, aka Hypo. It was learnt that another friend, who sustained gunshot injuries on both legs, was recuperating in a private hospital in the area.

Alleged $25,000 bribe-for- signature: Reps probe Dogara

One of the leaders of the Transparency Group in the House of Representatives, Abubakar Chika (Niger-APC) said the group is investigating the allegation that members were handed $25,000 to sign up for a vote of confidence on Speaker Yakubu Dogara.

Former chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Abdulmumin Jibrin had accused lawmakers of collecting the said sum to sign a register in the Speaker’s Asokoro residence.
He alleged that two lawmakers, Jagaba Adams Jagaba (Kaduna -APC), Zakari Mohammed (Kwara-APC) and the Speaker’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Cyril Maduabum were involved in sharing the money.
They all denied the allegation with Maduabum positing in a statement that Jibrin simply accuses those who speak out against him of corruption.

Housewives bathe each other with hot water over lover


Two housewives, identified only as Muyibat and Biliki, have suffered severe burns after a fight over a man.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the two women emptied a kettle of hot water on each other during the brawl which occurred at their residence in the Yaba area of Lagos State.

Biliki, who was living with her husband in the Surulere area of the state, relocated to her parents’ house in Abule Oja, Yaba, in 2015, after separating from the husband.

Muyibat lives with her husband and three children in the house.

Source said that 32-year-old Biliki accused Muyibat, 29, of marrying her former boyfriend, which caused bad blood between them.

Confusion as Obasanjo is sighted at PDP event venue

There was a mild drama on Friday at the Shehu Yar’Adua Centre, Abuja, the venue of the inauguration of the Peoples Democratic Party national convention committee, as former President Olusegun Obasanjo was sighted on the premises.

The former President was at centre to attend a programme on Agriculture while the PDP leaders were also at the same premises to attend their party’s event.
