Undergraduates rape, rob job seeker, take nude photos

The police in Lagos have arrested two undergraduates for allegedly raping a job-seeker, identified only as Nike, and robbing her of valuables in the Igando area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Valentine and Kusimo, allegedly took turns to rape their victim after luring her into a hotel.

Valentine, an indigene of Imo State, was said to be seeing off the 27-year-old with the hope that she would not raise the alarm when Nike suddenly called for help.

Lagos Bans Parties, Social Functions in Public Schools

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday said it would no longer allow social functions and parties in public schools just as owners of private schools across the state have been warned to comply with rules and regulations guiding their operations.
The Deputy Governor of the State, Dr. Mrs Idiat Oluranti Adebule who disclosed this while briefing the media on the strategic focus of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s administration on education for 2016, said the Governor had directed that schools should no longer be used for social functions.

Eritrean men have been asked by the government to marry more than one wife or risk being jailed for life.
This is contained in a statement in Arabic by the Grand Mufti (the highest official of religious law in the country) which scanned copy surfaced on social media sites on Thursday last week.
In the statement, Eritrea called for all men in the country to marry at least two wives and the government assured the men that it would pay for the marriage ceremonies and houses.

Obama bans solitary confinement for juveniles in federal prisons

 

 "It has been linked to depression, alienation, withdrawal, a reduced ability to interact with others and the potential for violent behavior," Obama wrote in an op-ed posted Monday evening on The Washington Post's website. "Some studies indicate that it can worsen existing mental illnesses and even trigger new ones. Prisoners in solitary are more likely to commit suicide, especially juveniles and people with mental illnesses."

Obama asked the Justice Department to review the use of solitary confinement last summer, as part of the administration's increased focus on the criminal justice system. Activists have been pushing for changes to the prison system.

EFCC confiscates Dasuki, others properties

 

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has confiscated so many properties believed to belong to former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki and some officials on trial or under investigation.
The properties were sealed at the weekend in Kaduna, The Nation reports.
 Dasuki is at the centre of the anti-graft commission’s investigation into the $2.1 billion arms deal scam.

Hoodlums slaughter 23-year-old

.

Some hoodlums have invaded Iya Agan Street on Old Apapa Road in the Ebute-Meta area of Lagos State, killing a 23-year-old, identified only as Dada.

According to PUNCH Metro, the hoodlums, who wielded guns and cutlasses, asked residents not to panic while they slaughtered Dada, alias Ratio, saying they (hoodlums) did not come for innocent lives.

The 23-year-old, whose family members or address, had yet to be known, was killed around 5.30pm on Friday in the area.

A mother of two, Mrs. Oyinyechi Chinaka, is recuperating   after she was reportedly stabbed several times by her neighbour (names withheld)  in Mushin area of Lagos.
Mrs Chinaka was rushed to   the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba, but she lost her seven months pregnancy.
The victim’s agony began   after she allegedly caught the neighbour   stealing   money from her purse and, not wanting the woman to expose  him  at number 11, Anjorin Street, Mushin, Lagos, the suspect was said to have stabbed Mrs. Chinaka with  a  kitchen knife severally  on her stomach ,arm and neck and   left   her to bleed to death .

Police kill 2 robbery suspects in Ughelli shootout

 

There was tension, yesterday, at Upper Afiesere Junction, Ughelli, as a combined team of policemen and vigilante engaged a gang of suspected armed robbers in a shootout, during which two of the bandits were killed.
 A senior police officer attached to the Ughelli ‘A’ Division, who spoke on grounds of anonymity, said that a police patrol team was drafted to the robbery scene at 1.10p.m., following a tip-off on the operations of the hoodlums.

Nwobodo, a former senator and presidential aspirant on the platform of his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party, said he did not come into the APC to take anybody’s place.

The punch attack in the southern city of Belgorod was aired repeatedly on state television and went viral on YouTube, while Russian media nicknamed the attacker 'the boxer doctor'. In the video, the strongly-built doctor in medical clothing drags the barechested male patient from the examination table, asking him 'why did you touch the nurse?' and pushes him out of the doorway.

Buhari issues fresh orders to EFCC

 

There appears to be no backing down by President Muhammadu Buhari on his resolve to make anti-corruption and accountability the  fulcrum of his administration as he issued fresh orders to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to account for funds that were stolen but recovered by the Commission.
In fact, the President also  instructed the EFCC not to be distracted by negative comments from some quarters on its operations, especially as  they affect some of those who have been named in the now infamous $2.1b arms scandal.
This is coming at a time when the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP – which has had a few of its leaders arrested and detained in Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade – and the All Progressives Congress, APC, which is the ruling party, are trading words on the propriety or otherwise of the approach of the EFCC executing the anti-graft war.
