China has a history of making fake food items and the fake rice phenomenon has been there for a while.

India ‘overtakes UK as the fifth richest country in the world

The booming Indian economy is now larger than Britain's thanks to slump in the value of Sterling against the dollar, a report claims.
Indian government minister Kiren Rijiju announced on Twitter the nation had taken a “big leap” and become the fifth largest economy in the world – behind the US, China, Japan and Germany.

His comments came after a report by Forbes magazine suggested the UK had been overtaken by both France and India and now ranks seventh.
It blamed a collapse in the value of sterling of almost 20 per cent against the US dollar following the Brexit vote in June.

Biafra: 16 members of European parliament ask EU to challenge Buhari, DSS

Some members of the European parliament (MEP) have risen in support of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu.
The MEPs – 16 in number – in a joint letter have asked the European Union High Commission to take action on human rights abuses against members of the IPOB.
The letter addressed to the High Representative and vice president of the EU high commission Federica Mogherini said the unlawful detention of Kanu and the violence against IPOB members by Nigerian government must be looked into.
The letter which was dated Monday, December 19, said Kanu has been illegally imprisoned since October 14, 2015, despite being acquitted of all charges brought against him by the Department of State Services.

Game of Thrones star dies at 93

British actor Peter Vaughan has died aged 93. The star, who lives forever in sitcom history thanks to his role as prison capo Harry "Grouty" Grout in Porridge, passed away on 6 December.

Vaughan's agent Sally Long-Innes confirmed the sad news in a statement saying he "died peacefully with his family around him".

Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino has an £82m ($102m, €76m) release clause written into his contract, but the Merseyside club have made special arrangements to ensure Premier League rivals Arsenal cannot activate it.

Firmino, 25, joined the Premier League side for a reported fee of £29m in 2015. Under Jurgen Klopp, he has grown into an integral member of the starting XI at Anfield, having scored 17 goals and provided 17 assists in his 64 appearances for the Reds.

Nigerian Customs Seize Container of Egusi, Jollof rice, Ogbono Imported From India

Report making the rounds has it that Tin-Can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service intercepted container of “READY TO EAT FOODS” which include Egusi Soup, Jollof Rice, Ogbono, Yam Porridge imported from India.

Accorrding to the Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Bashar Yusuf who confirmed the report as he described the whole action as an “aberration” considering the fact that government granted zero duty for the importation of machinery for the packaging of agricultural products.
