The event was organised by the State Government in partnership with the Ministry of Women Affairs and the office of the Millennium Development Goals.

Mrs. Fayose also stated that the administration of her husband, Ayodele Fayose, had promoted women beyond the 35% affirmative action in political and other appointments.

She said, “Ekiti was the first to domesticate Gender based Violence Prohibition Law and Equal Opportunities Law and the reason is to protect the rights of women’s rights.

“These laws are meant to curtail all form of discrimination in the areas of appointments, promote their social and economic well-beings, combat poverty and ensure that they can compete favourably with their men counterparts.”

The Chairman, State Implementation Committee on MDGs and the Chief of Staff to Fayose, Mr. Dipo Anisulowo, disclosed that the State Government had procured a 9,000 units of ante natal kits at N40million that would be deployed to give adequate healthcare for pregnant women.

He said, “This is to encourage pregnant women to patronise our health facilities thereby reducing child and maternal deaths in the state. It would also reduce the spread of contagious diseases often associated with poverty.”
