The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Mr Kayode Aderanti, confirmed on Saturday that hoodlums had attacked the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Kayode Opeifa. He told newsmen in Lagos that the police were investigating the
incident to bring the perpetrators to book. Opeifa had earlier announced that his residence and the INEC office in the Agege Local Government Area were attacked by hoodlums at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday. He made the disclosure while speaking with reporters at polling booth, unit 03, Ward 04, located at Oyewole Road, Agege, near Lagos. The commissioner explained that at about 11:45 p.m. on Friday, suspected thugs stormed ‎the Orile Agege Local Council Development Area, shooting sporadically and vandalising property. “After they had attacked the council, they also attacked the INEC Agege Office situated close to the LCDA, before coming here to fire shots at my house, scared people out of sight and damaged cars.”
Opeifa later conducted reporters round some of the affected places in his house where gun shots and bottles left damaging marks. NAN reports that there were bullet holes in his living room window glasses and the front wall of his house. He also showed a damaged car parked outside his gate. “The attack was launched at about 11:45 p.m. It was shortly after the police area commander left the area,” Opeifa said, adding that the incident had been reported to the police. Corroborating the incident, the INEC ‎Electoral Officer in-charge of the council, Mr Dapo Aderibigbe, said it was true that the commission’s office was attacked. “It was true that we were attacked. It was an attack aimed at creating fears in us. “But we are not in a position to say who is responsible because that is the responsibility of the security operatives,” Aderibigbe said.
