Suspects Remanded In Prison over Ejigbo Pepper Sodomy
Ten suspects, arrested in connection with gruesome case of rape and torture notoriously known as Ejigbo pepper sodomy, remanded in prison. That assault led to death of one of the three victims. The group of nine men and one woman face the charges on involvement in torture, sodomy and attempted murder of three females for allegedly stealing pepper at Oba Morufu International Market in Ejigbo area of Lagos State in 2013.
The remanded suspects are Isiaka Waidi, 61; Saheed Adisa, 29; Lateef Tijani, 37; Ahmed Adisa, 65; Azeez Akinosun, 36; Jimoh Busari, 50; Adekunle Adenuga, 38; Oloruntoyin Dauda, 46; Buhari Yusuf, 22; and Abdullahi Haruna, 20. They were accused of assaulting mother and two daughters, inserting sticks into the vaginas of Nike Salami and Juliana Agomo, and stripping naked, beating up and rubbing pepper all over body of Ajoke Agomo.
According to the charge, Waidi and Lateef extorted the sum of N50,000 from the relative of the victims, Fima Agomo, by falsely pretending that the said money would be paid to traders in the market whose pepper had been allegedly stolen.The case has caused public outcry due to footage of tortures that become viral on the internet and even caused doubts of whether such cruelty could have place in reality.
