Resident doctors of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH) stormed the building of Osun State House of Assembly demanding their unpaid salaries.The doctors who haven’t seen their money for half a year gathered in front of the House of Assembly in Osogbo for a protest holding placards and chanting solidarity slogans.
The protest escalated into a storm of the gates of the House of Assembly. Protesters explained to press their point of view, describing the situation with salary arrears over half a year as devastating and dehumanising. However, the Deputy Speaker, Mr. Akintunde Adegboye, talking to protesting doctors advised them to stay patient. He told them the state government is searching the ways to ensure salary payments to Osun civil servants including doctors. Adegboye also informed that the Assembly is going to resolve this conflict directly with the House Committee on Health.
At the same time trade unions’ representative in Osun told that payment of the salaries is the only measure for state government to avoid consequences of strike action.
