How N65bn Abacha loot was spent – Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

 

Former Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala told the World Bank that about $500 million (N65bn) recovered from the late Head of State, General Sani Abacha in Switzerland was spent in the 2004 and 2005 budgets on roads, electricity, education, water and health across all six geo-political zones of Nigeria.

This was contained in the documents the World Bank sent to Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, following enquiries made by SERAP on how the money, tagged Abacha loot was spent.

Unemployment level, a time bomb – Obasanjo

 

Former President Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has expressed concern over the unemployment rate in the country, stressing that if urgent steps are not taking to address it, “the country may be sitting on a keg of gun powder.”

Payment Of N5,000 To Unemployed Nigerian Youth To Start 2016 – Minister

                           

The federal government has ​​​assured that it would commence payment of N5,000 promised unemployed Nigerian youth during the electioneering campaign, from 2016 . ​The minister of youth and sports, Solomon Dalong,said this on Wednesday when he paid a condolence visit on the national chairman of the APC, John Odigie-Oyegun, over the death of Abubakar Audu.

Residents of Baruwa area of Lagos State, a community hosting high pressure pipeline conveying premium motor spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, to other parts of South West states are in dire need of potable water.
The pipeline is operated by an arm of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), the Petroleum Products Marketing Company (PPMC).
A major underground water pollution occurred in the area in 1998 and contaminated sources of water supply to the area and the community since then have complained in vain to the NNPC and Lagos State Government to provide alternative water supply to them.

DHQ alerts on new terror plots

 

THE Defence Headquarters (DHQ) yesterday alerted the public on new plots by terrorists who now plant Improvised Explosive De­vices (IEDs) on attractive objects in public places.
Acting Director Defence Information (DDI), Colo­nel Mohammed Rabe, who made this known at a meet­ing with correspondents in Abuja, said terrorists now conceal cluster bombs in attractive objects to attack people.

Kogi election: Police uncover plans to import thugs, arms

The police on Friday alerted the public to an intelligence report that some people were trying to smuggle arms and thugs into Kogi State ahead of the governorship election to hold today.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police, in charge of Operations, Mr. Sotonye Wakama, who disclosed this, said for that reason, travellers going into the state should expect to be searched thoroughly.

Rivers elders reject Biafra

 

The Rivers Elders and Leaders Council (RELEC) Chairman Chief Albert Horsfall and Secretary Lawrence Ibiayenie, yesterday warned that Port Harcourt should not be turned to a battle ground by pro-Biafran agitators.
The elders described the protests by members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) as uncalled for. Rivers people are not Biafrans, they insisted.

More than 150 people have been killed in a series of coordinated terror attacks in the heart of Paris which have paralysed the French capital.

As many as 118 people alone were massacred at a concert in the Bataclan theatre following a hostage situation last night that concluded in a suicide attack while another 11 were shot down at a Cambodian restaurant. 

Early reports suggest a further 200 people are being treated for injuries, with 80 of them seriously hurt.
