Adesina said Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will perform the functions of the president during his absence.
“In compliance with Section 145 (1) of the Nigerian Constitution, President Buhari has dispatched a formal notice of his vacation to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives,” Adesina said.
President Buhari, who is taking his first vacation as president of Nigeria, is in United Kingdom for the Supporting Syria Conference in London.
However, Investigation by TheFocus revealed that the actual reason for Buhari’s trip to the United Kingdom is to attend to pressing medical needs.
Source close to Buhari’s personal physician, Suhayb Sanusi Rafindadi revealed that he has gone to treat a nagging health condition – prostate cancer.
It might be recalled that report exposing the President’s plan to use the Syrian meeting as a cover for medical check-ups in the United Kingdom leaked from the Aso Rock Villa.
The Presidency denied the report, saying the President Buhari is visiting United Kingdom to participate in a Syrian solidarity Conference which ended yesterday.
President Buhari was said to have lashed out angrily at members of staff at the Villa, threatening to sack whoever is found guilty of leaking State House information to newsmen.
Chief of staff to the President, Abba Kyari also threaten to deal decisively with workers of the Aso Rock presidential villa against leaking official letters or other sensitive documents to the media.
“One thing we cannot tolerate is letters and information going out of this office. I have seen one with my signature shown to me.
“I do not know who that is; I do not know why anyone should do that but please make sure that that does not happen. Anything that is written, it will come out anyway, it is not a secret but the bad thing is for it to come out before it is publicly made by the relevant authorities.” Kyari said
Before his inauguration in may 2015, Buhari spent nine days in London to meet with his doctors, returning only one day before his inauguration.
President Buhari is taking his first vacation only eight months since coming to office and is expected back home next weekend.
Buhari has spent more than 40 days in trips to different parts of the world since he was sworn in on May 29, 2015. The president’s frequent foreign trips is seen as a drain on Nigeria’s meager resources. His critics accuse him of engaging in wasteful international junkets, saying the has taken to attending conferences that should have been assigned to his political aides, permanent secretaries or ministers. Buhari has made very few official trips within Nigeria.
