The back-and-forth drama between Taylor Swift and Kanye West is infamous enough that the 2009 quote “Imma let you finish” is still a valid catchphrase these days.
However, West took things a bit too far this year, when, on his new album, The Life of Pablo, he called out Swift with the notation: “I made that b**** famous.”
Swift’s friends and family reacted at the time; she herself did not. Until the night of the 2016 Grammys, that is. Upon scoring the evening’s highest honor – Album of the Year, for her set 1989 – Swift took the stage and delivered a stinging speech, with an only thinly veiled dig at Kanye.
“As the first woman to win Album of the Year at the Grammys twice,” she noted coolly, “I want to say to all the young women out there: There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame.”
Love her or hate her, Taylor watchers have to admit one thing: Girl has timing.
Fans reacted with a spectrum of shock at her level-headed shade, with most expressing admiration at her daring.
West did not immediately respond, but given his recent string of Twitter rants the past couple of days, it’s a pretty safe bet this feud is not over yet.
In addition to her Album of the Year accolade, Swift won the very first award of the night, for Best Pop Vocal Album. She additionally picked up Best Music Video for “Bad Blood.”
